Application analysis of VR in the field of education and Teaching - Dr. Zhou Fuli


Abstract: The application of VR technology in the field of education makes full use of VR's characteristics of interaction, imagination and immersion safety, and turns learning into an interactive experience. Through the teaching method of edutainment, students' interest and initiative in learning are stimulated and their learning efficiency is improved. In the future, VR+ education, which integrates immersion, interaction and imagination, will have a profound impact on traditional learning environment, teaching methods and practical teaching.

1. The introduction

In the era of global information education, the educational model, content and teaching methods are undergoing profound changes. With the development and application of VR technology, more and more people know VR technology, and it has gradually penetrated into the public's vision. More and more people have devoted themselves to VR, and various development software has emerged and become more mature [1]. Therefore, more and more education workers to strengthen the study of VR virtual reality technology, virtual reality technology in order to use VR to introduce more diverse teaching method, to change the original boring traditional teaching mode, stimulate students' interest in learning, improve the intercommunication of the teaching content and teachers' work efficiency, especially the arrival of the 5 g now, VR virtual reality technology to provide technical support, so that it can be better applied to the field of education. In this context, VR education is bound to become the focus of educational development in the future.

2. Introduction of VR virtual reality technology

2.1 Concept of VR

VR virtual reality technology itself is a combination of computer, multimedia, simulation images and other electronic technology in one, and formed a new computer technology. Realistic virtual simulation scenes provide users with visual, auditory, tactile and other sensory virtual, with the help of wearable devices to create immersive feelings and experience. To some extent, VR technology can use computers to form a very realistic virtual world, which is realistic enough to confuse people's senses. This kind of confused behavior will make many users immersed in the virtual environment, which is the immersion created by VR virtual reality technology. And create immersive fundamental purpose is to let the user to be able to concentrate, based on this target VR virtual reality technology must have three elements, as shown in figure 1, through the several technical factors interrelated, interaction and can give users a sense of existence, think oneself exists in the virtual environment self-respect, Thus, a stronger sense of immersion is generated [2].

2.2 Features of VR

(1) Immersion

Also known as presence, refers to the user's sense of reality in the virtual world. Ideal simulation environment should the user is difficult to distinguish true and false, the user fully into the computer to create a 3 d virtual environment, everything seems to be really in this environment, sound, movement is true, even smell, taste, etc all feeling is true, as in the real world feeling.

(2) Interaction

Refers to the user's manipulation of objects in the virtual world. For example, users can grab virtual objects in the simulated environment directly with their hands. At this time, their hands have the feeling of holding something and can feel the weight of the object. The object caught in the field of vision can also move immediately with the movement of their hands.

(3) Imagination

Also known as autonomy, it refers to that users can obtain knowledge comprehensively, exert subjective initiative and seek perfect solutions to problems by relying on their own perception and cognitive ability in the multi-dimensional information space of the virtual world.

Because immersion, interactivity, and conceptualization all begin with an I, these three features are often referred to collectively as the 3I feature.

3. The application of VR in education and teaching

3.1 Application of VR in class

In the application of VR+ education, the most common product is VR immersive classroom, which uses VR technology to create virtual learning space and provide immersive classroom teaching experience. For example, Google has launched Expeditions in K12 schools in the US. With Expeditions, middle school teachers in Philadelphia can take students on Expeditions to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia or castles in Spain. In the field of higher education, VR technology has also played an advantage. For example, CAE Healthcare, a medical training and education institution in the United States, has introduced HoloLens to assist medical teaching. They developed Vimedix ultrasonic simulator, which can liberate human organs from the display screen and display the structures that need to be dissected. Teachers can zoom in, rotate and rotate organ models to see the relationships between organ structures. In the simulator, the human body becomes like lego blocks, which can be easily disassembled and installed. Students can observe the ultrasonic beam in real time by virtue of this technology, and its futuristic operation mode in science fiction movies and observation of human structure from a novel perspective undoubtedly vividly visualize the teaching of human anatomy [3]. VR technology enriches teaching forms, carries forward the advantages of traditional teaching, and makes up for the shortcomings, so that students can experience the current mainstream technology in school. Practice is the only criterion to test truth. Immersive learning and exploration make students feel that seeing is believing.

3.2 Application in traffic safety knowledge popularization education for teenagers

In recent years, China's science and technology has made rapid progress, and people's life has also undergone great changes. With the development of science and technology in China and the improvement of people's living standards, vehicles such as cars, trains, subways, planes and so on have appeared, bringing convenience to people's travel at the same time, there are also traffic safety accidents. In 2019, 38 major traffic accidents occurred in China, causing varying degrees of casualties. However, teenagers lack the corresponding safety awareness, especially in traffic safety. Therefore, it is of great significance to use virtual technology in traffic safety education.

The emergence of virtual reality (VR) technology has enriched the way of traffic safety publicity and education. Propagandists can make use of VR to conduct panoramic simulation of real life traffic conditions, and hold traffic safety education seminars in schools for students to attend and experience. On the one hand, using the technology of virtual simulation traffic environment in real life, let youth into the environment, as it were, to experience different traffic behavior, can help teenagers learn traffic safety knowledge, can also help teenagers to improve the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, in order to improve the traffic safety consciousness of the youth; On the other hand, it can also simulate various behaviors of violating traffic laws and regulations in real life, such as running red lights, drunk driving and other scenes and the possible consequences of violating the rules. On the premise that teenagers can accept, let them moderately experience these scenes and feel the consequences of lacking traffic safety knowledge and violating traffic safety laws and regulations, so as to promote the formation of their traffic safety awareness [4].

4. Practical enlightenment of VR to traditional education and teaching

4.1 Ensure the safety of personnel during the experiment

In real life, school teaching safety has become a hot topic of social concern. When conducting chemical experiments, students may encounter strong corrosive chemical reagents such as sulfuric acid and some toxic chemical agents, and due to their lack of experience, once they make mistakes in the experiment process, safety accidents will occur. VR technology is used to simulate the reality of the laboratory, rich in chemical reagents and chemicals, to meet the needs of students, more importantly, students will not directly encounter these dangerous chemicals, will not cause harm to the body. Even in the process of operation, it will not cause teaching accidents, and realistic operation feedback can standardize students' operation, cultivate students' rigorous scientific attitude. Students can also feel the results of chemical experiments, which is convenient for students to improve their learning. Therefore, the application of virtual laboratory simulation technology in chemical experiments can not only avoid such safety accidents, but also arouse students' interest in learning [5].

4.2 Show the textbook content to students more intuitively

As a useful supplement traditional teaching form, VR + education through bring students immersive feeling and autonomous control, provides a lively thinking material, show students cannot directly observe things, formation of knowledge, this can let the student fully immersed sexual features into the virtualization of VR equipment to create specific roles, Endows students with embodied cognition that cannot be obtained in the traditional classroom teaching environment. Using VR wearable devices, teachers can lead students through time and space at any time to return to the historical scene, direct contact to touch the history, the relatively boring textbooks and abstract cultural knowledge in the form of lively and interesting, the visual image, so that the students further grasp the details of history, after the double after the baptism of body and mind, Students deepen their understanding of the basics. It is more conducive to students' study and in-depth understanding of humanistic knowledge.

4.3 Change the traditional teaching concept

VR technology teaching will be gradually popularized in the future. The application of VR technology in teaching can help teachers change their original teaching methods, make teaching adjustments, and achieve teaching objectives in a more acceptable and effective way for students. VR experience will change the traditional teaching concept. Teachers can not only display and explain knowledge on the blackboard and multimedia, but also lead students to experience immersion, encourage students to explore knowledge and enhance their interest in learning.

4.4 Distance education and training

Virtual reality teaching models can really help everyone who wants to learn, no matter where they are. There are many people who may not have the opportunity to take classes in physical schools, but they can register for VR courses online and learn remotely. One such example is Stanford Business School, which offers a certificate program that can be learned entirely through VR. Therefore, watching video courses online has broken down many educational barriers and is a very promising field. Distance education training can improve the imbalance of regional education quality and promote the allocation of regional resources.

5. Conclusion

The combination of VR and education breaks the traditional way of education and teaching. On the one hand, it relieves teachers' teaching pressure and students' learning pressure, promotes the further implementation of education burden reduction plan, and is beneficial to students' physical and mental health development. On the other hand, the virtual reality technology can make students more intuitive understanding of the book content, a better understanding of the subjects such as history textbook knowledge, rather than hard textbooks, the fun of learning style, also can greatly improve the students' study enthusiasm, cultivating students' interest in learning, explore the world, promote the all-round development of students. Although some modes of VR+ education are not particularly mature and perfect, and some may have some great disadvantages, all modes and technologies grow from failures and lessons. In the future, IT is expected that VR+ education will have a higher popularity and a more feasible and perfect operation mode.

All in all, the organic combination of VR and education has more advantages than disadvantages, and VR+ education will definitely shine in the education industry in the future, playing a crucial role.
